“In fact, there are people who, when they didn’t play RS gold, they could not eat and could perish of hunger,” a former Runescape farmer who wished to remain anonymous told me on Facebook. “I have friends who play daily and if they don’t play, they do not eat that day.”
More and more Venezuelans are growing wise to the benefits of gold farming. Earlier this year, a local paper published an article on the process. Runescape players, meanwhile, always report seeing dozens of gold farmers crowding up locations such as the Silk Mine and East Dragons.
This has resulted in growing tensions, with players doing everything from regularly demanding that programmer Jagex prohibit all gold farmers into publishing a guide that assists other players more effectively search, kill, and insult farmers. “I have friends who perform with daily, and if they don’t play, they don’t eat daily.”
“I never thought I’d see a manual on how best to effectively kill bad people,” read one response. “Literal humanitarian catastrophe going on there. People starving to death. The guide’s author believes it’s a cheap OSRS gold plan to not just kill them taunt them in their own vocabulary and teabag them return… That is some fairly arsehole shit right there,” read another.
